About the Role

Wondergate is seeking an experienced, hands-on Security Manager to lead venue security and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment for guests, staff, and performers.

Working closely with the General Manager, you will supervise security personnel, coordinate door and floor coverage, manage incident response, and maintain clear security procedures. This role requires sound judgment, calm communication, and a professional approach to de-escalation and guest service.

This part-time position requires on-site work in San Diego, including late nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead security operations during assigned shifts, including entry screening, floor coverage, crowd management, and closing.
• Establish and maintain security procedures with the General Manager, adapting coverage to each event’s attendance, layout, and operational needs.
• Assist with recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising security personnel within approved staffing levels and budgets.
• Conduct pre-shift briefings and assign clear responsibilities, posts, and communication procedures.
• Coordinate identification checks and entry procedures with door staff and management.
• Monitor guest behavior and respond professionally to disturbances, unauthorized access, and other safety concerns.
• Prioritize de-escalation and coordinate guest removals with trained personnel according to company procedures.
• Work with bar staff and management to address intoxication and responsible-service concerns.
• Keep exits, emergency access routes, and staff-only areas clear and secure.
• Coordinate responses to medical incidents, emergencies, and evacuations, contacting emergency services when needed.
• Prepare and review accurate incident reports and promptly escalate significant incidents to management.
• Monitor security equipment, cameras, radios, and access controls; report maintenance needs and preserve relevant incident records.
• Protect confidential information and treat guests and employees consistently and respectfully.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Security Manager, Security Supervisor, or comparable security team leader.
• Experience in nightlife, hospitality, live events, or other high-volume guest environments.
• Strong knowledge of access control, crowd management, de-escalation, and incident documentation.
• Experience with emergency response planning and coordinating security teams.
• Familiarity with security cameras, radios, alarms, and access-control equipment.
• Current security credentials and training required for the assigned duties.
• First Aid, CPR, and AED training preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and guest service skills.
• Sound judgment, discretion, reliability, and a high level of integrity.
• Availability to work part-time on-site in San Diego, including late nights, weekends, and holidays.
